(cable project)

This project began with an impulse to 'mark' my departure from south-east Asia after a decade of living there. In the months leading up to my leaving, I visited an abandoned CIA facility in central Bangkok which was built in the 1960s. The facility is dull and colourless and one can wander the vacant hallways, which appear to be offices or warehouses. As I walked through, I couldn't help but wonder about the decisions and actions that originated there and the ripple effects they caused throughout the region and the world.

These two factors ignited the project's initial part, consisting of forty-four written documents that imitate classified diplomatic cables and sending each over postal mail from Bangkok to Mexico City, my next destination. Each cable corresponds to a year from my birth until now and briefly details historical events for each country (Thailand/Mexico). The choice of historical events to document in the sent cables was entirely subjective and ranged from each country's political, financial, and pop culture. All cables arrived at their destination in Mexico City.
